If you are a theater and performance arts lover, enjoy reflecting on multicultural questions, and happen to have admiration for Indian culture and Hinduism, a fascinating event is beginning this weekend on October 5 in downtown Minneapolis.
Mixed Blood Theater Company presents Displaced Hindu Gods: A Trilogy of Plays by Aditi Brennan Kapil from October 5 through 27th, 2013.
Those who are familiar with the theater atmosphere in Minneapolis, you probably have an idea how brilliant, creative and sophisticated Mixed Blood Theater Company is, especially in addressing multicultural issues and presenting interesting views on the concepts of pluralism, ethnic diversity and minority experiences. They describe themselves as “a professional, multi-racial theatre promoting cultural pluralism and individual equality through artistic excellence.” One may as well see Mixed Blood an off-campus extension of Macalester, given how much we care about multiculturalism and pluralism. Either way, neither this event, nor any other events presented by the Company should be missed. I can guarantee you will not regret it.
The description of the plays is as follows:
A festival of three world premieres based on the trinity of Hindu deities- Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva- each displaced into the contemporary Western world. This theatrical marathon features a variety of styles: a stand-up comedy routine, a girl-gang thriller, and a post-colonial fantasy. While each play stands alone, they co-exist in a common universe where displacement, identity, immigration, and puberty are explored through the lenses of creation, survival, and destruction.
The three shows are cast with seven actors (some in multiple roles), designed by one team, and can be seen singly on week nights or as a marathon on Saturdays and Sundays in a never-before-seen configuration of the Alan Page Auditorium.

Entrance fee is also flexible and affordable - they have a system of “Guarantee Admission” through which you can reserve your ticket in advance for $20 OR you can risk your admission and participate in the “First Come First Serve” system for free.
